Libraries and books
Please join us as we address illiteracy and provide invaluable opportunities to our youth, one library / book at a time.
Mission
Our Vision
With only 6% of schools in South Africa having libraries and an alarming 81% of learners within South Africa who are not able to read, our youth are not given the opportunities they require and rightly deserve in order to increase their literacy levels to improve their future prospects for success.
Our vision is to indelibly instill in each child a sense of literacy, responsibility and entrepreneurship and in turn teach learners how they can better themselves and the lives of those around them no matter what background they come from.
Please join us as we address illiteracy and provide invaluable opportunities to our youth, one library / book at a time.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- To improve reading skills.
- To teach kids self-trust.
- To teach kids to believe in their future.
- To teach kids that no matter their background, with hard work and determination they can achieve great things.
- To provide kids with a safe environment to complete their homework and assignments.
HOW IT WORKS
LIBRARIES:
- 12 meter containers are refurbished and windows and doors are added to transform each container into a comfortable and functional library.
- Each container is equipped with a 14 x 4m concrete slab for the container to be placed on, shelving, books, tables and chairs as well as the Grow Your Life series of books.
- Schools are contacted and vetted to see if they qualify for the project.
- Our team, along with the sponsors, transport and set up the library on the selected school grounds.
- We train librarians for each of the libraries.
- The library functions according to the hours set by each school, with each school operating for a minimum of 7 hours a day.
- Librarians keep daily records of books taken out and returned.
- Our team conducts frequesnt site visits to monitor
the library functionality.
HOW IT WORKS
BOOKS:
- There are 4 books within the Grow Your Life book series. These books were written with the aim of providing a sense of hope and instilling the belief in children that you can achieve your dreams and goals despite your circumstances.
- We print and distribute 10 000 copies of Grow Your Life books and essay sheets each year.
- School principals agree to take part in the project.
- Grade 4, 5 and 6 learners each receive their own book and essay sheet.
- Together with the assistance from the teachers, learners are to write a short essay on what they would like to achieve to better themselves and how they will go about achieving this.
- Essays are collected at a later stage and prizes are given out to incentivize learners to take part.

Book 1:
Aims to instill a sense of confidence and that as long as you have a dream and are willing to work hard, your goals can be achieved.

Book 2:
Illustrates the importance of living responsibly
and making the right choices.

Book 3:
Aims to instill a sense of belief that opportunities for success can be found in even the
most unlikely of circumstances.

Book 4:
Aims to help children identify and nurture their own unique talents for the benefit of their own lives.
Why
Primary
Schools?
South Africa has critically low literacy levels amongst its learners.
Reading and reading with comprehension is a
serious problem.
An alarming 81% of learners within South African
households do not even own a single reading
book.
Research has shown that due to the pandemic
these numbers had significantly increased, wiping
out a decade of progress.
Basic educational concepts need to be instilled at
foundation level.
